Henry may be a world-class prankster; or maybe he just needs a new dentist. Regardless, this was an epic performance on so many levels. Bravo.
Henry couldn't add to his haul of a fireplace and $500, however, as he misfired on "Squeeze Play" for two motor scooters. At the wheel, Henry lost his tooth again, and then couldn't match a $1 spin that came before him.
Regardless, add Henry to the list of legendary The Price is Right contestants.
The odyssey of Daisy
Today was quite a day for old people on The Price is Right. Let's take a look at Daisy's day on the show.
One of the "first four" contestants to come down, she was stuck on bidders' row through the first half of the show. Here's one reason why: for this set of luggage...
...Daisy bid...
In the next round, though, Daisy got it together with a $1,500 bid on a set of jewelry that was worth $1,505. When she got up on stage, Drew Carey commented, "You went from a disaster bid of $8,000 to being off by $5."
The momentum wouldn't carry, however, as what followed was perhaps the worst playing of "It's in the Bag" in recent memory:
This performance reminded me of Donna's infamous "Clock Game" wipeout, which popped into my mind because I'm not sure Daisy really knew where she was, either.
$1.49 for toothpaste, with that little thing of tomatoes sitting right there? Really? And how much help do you really need to know the krill oil supplement is the $29.99 item? That's when you knew something was a little "off" here.
Daisy's roller coaster ride continued at the wheel, as she spun $1 on her first go. On her bonus spin, the wheel went around exactly one revolution, landing on the 5-cents for another $10,000 in cash. I still don't think she knew what was going on, but Drew was pumped and bells were ringing and lights were flashing, so Daisy jumped around accordingly...
After all of this, I couldn't wait to see what Daisy was going to bid on her Showcase. On a package that included an iPad, iPod, a trip to Hawaii and a Fiat, she bid $26,000. I thought she had it won, particularly after what I thought was Jacob's woefully low bid of $17,500 on a Victoria's Secret swimwear set, trip to Jamaica and jet ski.
As it turned out, Jacob bid much better than I thought ($4,207 off on a $21,707 package), and Daisy was over by $180. It was a tough defeat, and a clearly sympathetic Jacob went to offer Daisy his condolences. Planet Daisy was having none of it, and just sauntered off into the sunset.
A quick rundown of other highlights
Today's show was packed with good stuff, including:
* Two exacta bids on bidders' row (Henry and Marlene's $1,200 luggage bid that preceded Daisy's $8K catastrophe)
* Two $1 spins (Daisy and Jacob in the first Showcase Showdown)
* Brandy's "Any Number" win (which included a "timeout" to run across the stage and look at the car, after the game had already started, prompting Drew to tell her to "hurry up" multiple times)
* Daniel Goddard, obviously
Why not just give her the prize?
After Marlene pocketed her $500 cash with her perfect luggage bid, she played "The Bonus Game" for a trip to British Columbia. You're given four smaller prizes and a wrong price, and you have to guess whether the actual price is higher or lower. If you get the prize that's "attached" to the bonus, you get the big prize (the trip to British Columbia, in this case).
Clearly, The Price is Right wanted Marlene to get the big prize today, for they attached it to this set of cookie cutters...
...with a listed price of $39. No one in their right mind is going to think this is worth more than $39. Marlene went lower, it turned out to be $20, and she's heading to British Columbia.
And, finally...
Here's Drew twirling a fake mustache while sending it to commercial:
