The Price is Right - 5/25/12 Episode

Today was a fairly average episode of The Price is Right - until Alexandra's performance in "Lucky Seven."

Going for a Honda Civic LX, Alexandra took it right down to the wire. Playing along at home, I actually guessed the exact same numbers for the second, third and fourth digits. I "played it safe" with a 5 as the last digit. Alexandra did not...

...and was rewarded with a new car (I would've lost). Nicely done.

It would have been hard to top yesterday's 5-for-6 showing, but this was a solid highlight of a 3-for-6 (which seems better than average the last few months) episode.

Margarita also had a nice win in "The Bargain Game" (nee "Barker's Bargain Bar"). Here's the setup:

Both of those prices are "bargain" prices, and you have to pick which is the bigger bargain. I thought this was a trap game: $786 sure seems really low for a motor scooter. I've seen them sneak in $3K grills, though. I'd have gone with the grill, which at $2,049 was a $500 bargain.

Margarita went for the scooter...

...and got the bigger bargain for the win.

Michael, meanwhile, had quite a flourish at the end of the show. One bid away from being a stranded "first four" contestant, Michael took advantage of some dodgy bidding on a pair of tablet computers:

(Michelle's $975 bid to start things off was OK, but Larry and Christina basically handed Michael the game by bidding so close, yet under.)

Michael then went on to win a home gym in "Now or Then," advanced to the Showcase by winning the wheel, and then won his showcase (mountain bike/trip to China/Nissan Cube XL) with a $28,000 bid that was just $1,445 off.

Bidders' row FAIL
And then we had Larry, who was a "first four" contestant to never make it on stage. He started off with a few reasonable bids, but fell off in the second half of the show. With a La-Z Boy chair at stake in the fourth round, Larry bid last, with $450, $300 and $455 bids already lodged. Those are all really low, so bid $456. Easy win.

But, no...

Sigh.

An old favorite
Danielle played "The Money Game" to start off the show today, and lost. Beside needing three guesses to get the first pair of digits, what tripped her up?

"El Cheapo!"

Right before Drew Carey got to the '05,' there was a guy in the audience who yelled out "El Cheapo" twice. He knew.

Jokes from Drew
Before Michael took down "Now or Then," Drew got in this jab at newspapers (as someone who has worked in newspapers his entire career, I got a cynical laugh out of it):

I'm not entirely sure why, but I couldn't stop laughing at this little outburst, either:

And, finally...
Here's a picture of a hipster faking a pool shot:
