The Price is Right - 4/11/12 Episode

Few things on The Price is Right get the studio crowd and viewers at home going more than a really old contestant.

Today's instant fan favorite was Leela, who won on her first go on bidders' row.

The crowd went bananas, chanting Leela's name and everything:

And what does every old person who can't walk up a flight of stairs without assistance need?

A new pickup truck! Of course!

Leela could hardly believe it...

In a cruel twist of fate, however, poor Leela got one of The Price is Right's most difficult games:

She did not win. Nor did she win on the wheel, despite a helping hand from Drew Carey:

In the Twitter-verse, most fans simply adored Leela in her quest for glory. Not everyone, though:

@MissAudreySue There is no way this million year old lady can drive this ford f150 on the price is right

@IceburrgSlim Why do they put old people on The Price Is Right? What they gonna do with a brand new car, go to the grocery store?

Cruel bounce of the day
With help from Publishers' Clearing House, Andrea had a chance to win $40,000 with her final Plinko chip ($20,000 today plus the $20,000 rolled over from yesterday). It was looking good, but...

So, tomorrow the big prize is $60,000. This is lining up for someone to win $80,000 on Friday, isn't it? Not that I'm suggesting it's fixed.

Paul from New Orleans
Paul had an interesting day on The Price is Right. He was the first contestant on stage, and immediately accosted Drew with a "Who Dat?"

"Who Dat," for those who don't know, is the rallying cry of sorts for New Orleans Saints fans. The Saints, who recently had their head coach suspended for a year for overseeing a bounty program that paid players for intentionally crippling opponents.

Oops.

So we know that Paul - who won a trip to Australia on Flip-Flop - is from New Orleans. Well, Paul made it to the Showcase, and after passing on a new game room and car, was playing for a prize package that included a trip to...

New Orleans!

Paul took it in stride with a bemused laugh...

Celebrity chef and Showcase co-presenter Curtis Stone tried his best to put a positive spin on it:

It got a better, as a trip to Thailand was also in the cards. Unfortunately, Paul slightly overbid, leaving Andrea of Plinko fame to take home the game room and car.

Pricing game FAIL
"Stack the Deck" is another difficult game that contestants, with frightening regularity, make even harder for themselves by completely cocking up the strategy.

For those who don't know, Stack the Deck starts off looking like this:

Five of those seven numbers are for the price of a car - in today's case, a Honda Civic LX. You can get three of five numbers given to you by guessing the prices of the three grocery items (you're given a price and two items, and you have to match the price with the right item).

It's safe to say that first number is a 1, and the second one is in the 7-9 range. The obvious strategy is to try and fill in the more difficult numbers at the end, hopefully knocking out at least one of the 7-9 numbers in the process.

This is not hard.

And, yet, what does Jeffrey (and so many others before him) do?

I love Drew calling Jeffrey out for his foolish decision. Jeffrey got a second number, and Drew all but told him where to go with it.

It was too little, too late.

A question about a commercial
In the "old people" or "housewives" demographic that The Price is Right panders to, this one falls under the housewives category.

This kid who can't find the flippin' Totino's Pizza Rolls - even though they're right in front of his face - has to call Mom in a fit of desperate hunger. Once Mom patiently tells him where they are, he puts the phone down in the fridge and closes the door. Why?

He didn't even say good-bye to Mom, either. Twerp.

Bidders' row FAIL
What to bid on that portable Sirius radio? Lynnette clearly had no idea.

The actual price was $671. Just missed!

And, finally, it's been a tough week-and-a-half for "first four" contestants not making it on stage. Je'nita was today's victim:
