If this isn't the best picture on the Internet right now, I don't know what is...
Why is Manuela holding a puppy? We'll get to that later (nice tease, eh?).
For now, let's chronicle a couple terrific pricing game wins. We had Rodney playing "That's Too Much" for a Jeep Wrangler. This is one of The Price is Right's toughest games - according to The Price is Right Recaps, contestants were 3-23 coming into today's show.
Make it 4-23.
Take a bow, Rodney.
As impressive as that was, Kelly Anne's performance on "Hole-in-One" was better. A quick explanation of the game: you have to sink a putt to win a car. How long that putt is depends on your ability to price grocery items. You're given six items, and you have to guess them in order from least to most expensive. The more you get right, the closer you get to the hole. If you blow it on the first one, you're looking at about a 14-foot putt. If you get all six, you have a tap-in for the car.
Kelly Anne got a pretty brutal set of groceries:
Lighter fluid? A five-gallon keg of root beer? If I had played this, I might have been looking at that 14-foot putt. Kelly Anne, however, went blackberries ($1.49), lighter fluid ($3.99), canola oil ($5.29), walnuts ($9.99), root beer keg ($18), pain reliever ($6.79)... All things considered, that's really damn good. I mean, I know that's a big-ass bag of walnuts, but really? $9.99?
So, Kelly Anne had to hit a three-footer...
...and completed her audition for a job in television, which she had been doing pretty much throughout the show.
Bidders' row FAIL
I admit I didn't have much faith in Kelly Anne after one of her first bids: $580, right after someone else bid $599. But she certainly righted the ship.
Poor Adam, on the other hand...
Adam was another "first four" contestant to get stuck on bidders' row for the entire show. He wasn't like most other "first four" flameouts; his bidding strategy was generally pretty sound. Unfortunately, it was also misapplied, as evidenced by this round where Adam (far right) was the fourth and final bidder:
I love the $1 over strategy, obviously, but you have to go $611 there. Trying to fit it in that small of a window stacks the odds against you.
Adam also didn't do himself any favors on his bid for an indoor jacuzzi whirlpool bathtub. Look at all those fancy words, and look at the prize...
...and surely you have to bid a little more than this:
The actual retail price was $2,869. Just missed! (Not that anyone was close, to be fair)
Solid wheel shoutout
One of the things that grinds my gears more than it should on The Price is Right is when a contestant rambles with their shoutouts while spinning the wheel. They'll say hello to all their grandkids, their 108 friends back home, and on and on and on, until Drew Carey awkwardly has to cut them off and tell them to spin again.
And then we have Halie:
Overzealous contestants
One of these days, The Price is Right is going to get sued because some moronic contestant gets a little too "aggressive" with the models after winning a prize.
Here's James hugging, picking up and twirling Manuela after winning a trip to Tahiti on "The Range Game":
James, you creep, that's Manuela Arbelaez, model on The Price is Right - not Jenny from sociology class at your Friday night kegger.
Manuela appeared to be unharmed after the incident.
James went on to spin $1 on the wheel and advance to the Showcase against Halie.
ADORABLE FURRY ANIMALS
So, after James bid on his breakfast nook/trip to Carmel, CA/Dodge Journey SUV, we came to Halie's "animal friendly" showcase. First was a trip for three - two humans plus a dog - to an "animal friendly hotel" in Maine. Then, it was a trip for three - two humans plus a cat - to New Orleans.
Included in these trips were various luxuries - including a massage - for said pets. There was no word on whether Halie actually owns a cat and/or dog.
Oh, and the Showcase also included a Ford Focus SE.
To help show off these prizes were Manuela with Pixie the puppy (as pictured above), along with announcer George Gray (who was called into modeling duty multiple times with Rachel and Amber both out today) and his cat... Cracker Sinatra. Best. Name. Ever.
George told us that Cracker Sinatra was a rescue from the local pound, while Pixie is awaiting a wonderful new owner. Drew reminded us to have our pets spayed or neutered:
And after all of that, James won the Showcase.
To me, the next-best thing about winning the Showcase - after the prizes - is getting mobbed by friends and family on stage while accepting congratulations from Drew and the models.
Well, while James was celebrating with his buddies, Drew and the models couldn't be bothered...
