It's relatively straightforward, still involves some logic, and is the most consistently dramatic game on the show. It almost always comes down to those last one or two numbers to win the car, mid-level prize or the piggy bank.
Sometimes, the drama gives way to a memorable victory.
And then we have Dendee today...
Tough luck. I'd have gone with the '1' there, too. The Price is Right has been tricky like that lately. They reversed the trend just in time today. I feel like it's been ages since somebody won a car.
It was a bad day for logic, as Allison's reasonable playing of "Lucky Seven" also let her down. After going with '8' and '5' as her first two numbers for the new pickup truck - guesses that left her with $3 to spare (meaning she couldn't be off by more than three on her next two guesses combined) - she goes with '4.' I went with '4,' too.
Cue the losing horn! |
Another '9'? Really? That's just cruel, The Price is Right. Cruel.
Well, at least Allison's appearance on the show led to this exchange prior to her loss:
An epic wheel spin-off
As I mentioned a couple times last week, if you spin a 60 as the first contestant at the wheel, I think you should spin again. It's a close call, and today, Joshua decided to stay with the 60 in that same situation.
An epic wheel spin-off ensued.
After Allison went over $1, William went 30-30-60, giving us a one-spin-per-contestant overtime. Both guys got 60 again, meaning a second spin-off. Joshua finally got it done in the second extra round, spinning a 95 to William's 40.
It was the highlight of an otherwise bad day at the office for Joshua, who overbid on his Showcase prize and lost "Pick a Pair" - a game that Drew Carey consistently tells us "people win all the time." In fact, according to The Price is Right Recaps, contestants were 11-0 in this game before today.
For those who don't know, the game gives you six grocery items, with three pairs of items sharing matching prices. All you have to do is pick one of those pairs, and if you don't get it right the first time, you get a second try for free. No wonder people win all the time.
Until you, Joshua. Until you.
Bidders' row FAIL
If you want a lesson on how NOT to play on bidders' row, here's a tutorial video from today's episode:
Let's recap:
1) Heather gets us off on the wrong foot by bidding $1,800 for a 32-inch LCD HD television, which even I know is less than a grand.
2) Tajauna says, "Heather, I will see your complete lack of retail awareness and raise you a bid just $50 under that allows me virtually no chance of winning."
3) Brooke going with $1 as the third bidder. You're just inviting Joshua to bid $2, and with the range between that and the first two bids, that's a guaranteed victory.
Brooke, incidentally, was another "first four" contestant to not make it on stage. Here you get an idea why.
The devil is in the details
When George Gray tells us the particulars of a given prize or trip, he's not doing so for his health. Often times, there are clues in those details that should make things a lot simpler for contestants.
Take today's playing of "Double Prices" - a 50-50 game where you're given two prices and just have to pick the right one - with a trip to New York City on the line. Here were Heather's two options:
This is a coach flight from L.A. to New York, for a four-night stay. Usually, The Price is Right goes six or seven nights. The fact that it's four nights is probably a bit of a tip-off here. Even New York isn't that expensive.
Heather went with $9,443. She did not win.
And, finally...
So, as you can tell, today was kind of a downer episode. What do we have to brighten things up?
Here's Ice-T lookalike Lamont doing the "robot" after winning a new kitchen on "The Shell Game."
